Hello world!
I have been away for so long. I am so sorry about that. I really need to schedule my blogs. Maybe every tuesday, friday or saturday would work. I need to make a decision about this. Guys, help me choose one of these days. Thanks in advance.
I have been asked about how i maintain my natural hair, especially during harsh weathers like winter and even during summer. When i went to Nigeria last year, i went to a beauty shop to do my hair. The first thing the stylist said was "this hair no dey pain you when you dey comb am? Madam, you for retouch your hair o? lol. I had to tell her to touch my hair and she said, "ehn its soft o. Wetin you dey put for your hair?" Well, I don't have a special way i maintain my hair, but the method i use helps my hair to grow and to maintain moisture. I will list 5 ways i maintain my hair.
- Co-wash with a good conditioner. Any type of conditioner you like is good. I sometimes use tresseme or V05 (to save money). Co-wash means using only conditioner to wash your hair. It helps soften your natural hair and makes it easy to comb. Co-washing can be once or twice a month. I usually soak my hair in the conditioner for 1 to 2 hours with shower cap covering my head. You can also use any type of leave-in conditioner afterwards. It will further soften your hair.
- Shampoo your hair with any shampoo that is sulfate-free. I prefer using the ones i can afford (also sulfate-free) and has some kind of natural product in it.
- Oil your hair with oils like coconut oil, avocado oil, castor oil to help your hair grow and retains moisture in your hair. I mix these oil together and i apply it to my hair.
- Moisturizer of any kind is great. I recommend cantu shea butter. I have been using it throughout my natural hair journey and it has been doing wonders.
- Protective hairstyle is another way i grow my hair. Examples are, single braids or bob marley as my naija people would call it, senegalese twist (twisting) or kinky twist, ghana weave, corn rows (my naija peeps will call it weaving), faux locs, weaves or weave-on etc. Do not leave the braids in for too long otherwise it will result in a lot of shedding when you take the braids down.Your edges can suffer a great loss. 4 to 6 weeks is recommended.
These are pretty much what i do to maintain my natural hair. I make sure i use what i can afford. I try as much as possible to get products that has natural products in it, instead of the ones with chemicals in it. I hope i have provided enough information. Ask me any questions on the comment section below and i will try my best to answer them. Please, help me make a decision on when i should post my blogs and give me ideas on what i should post.
Thanks for reading. Have a beautiful day. God bless you.
